The Meskwaki men trained in Marshalltown and served together in the 168th Infantry, 34th Division. After training in jungle warfare in Louisiana and coded language training in Scotland and England, they were sent to North Africa. |
Sanache Frank was one of 27 Meskwaki, then 16% of the Iowa Meskwaki population, enlisting in the Army in 1941, almost a year before Pearl Harbor. Ten members of the group became Code Talkers. Sanache Frank was captured by the Germans in Tunisia. He spent the rest of the war in Poland. |
