The Boxer Rebellion was a revolt, fomented by the Fists of Justice and Concord, a secret society whose symbol was a closed fist, hence the nickname of Boxers given to its members in the West, and which took place in China , between 1899 and 1901. This movement, initially opposed to both the reforms, foreign colonists and the feudal power of the Manchu dynasty of the Qing, was used by Empress Dowager Cixi against the only settlers, leading from June 20, 1900 to the headquarters of foreign legations present in Beijing. This is the episode of the "55 days of Beijing", which ended with the victory of the eight Allied nations against China (Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and United States) . Coming after the Sino-Japanese war of 1894-1895, lost by China, this new defeat is another milestone in the struggle between conservatism and colonialism to reformism and independence in nineteenth century China. This antagonism ends with the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912 and the creation of the Republic of China. |
There are no documents or texts about Native Americans during these two wars, yet a dozen of them are listed to date. |
