apache code talker
IN SERVICE: 2 Enlisted |
Service: 2nd World War. |
The Apache Tonto Paul Burdette wanted to join the US Army during the Second World War. At that time, the Tonto Apaches had no federal tribal recognition, so he enlisted in the Apache tribe of San Carlos. During the war, Mr. Burdette served honorably as a Code Talker with his partner, a White Mountain Apache named Nelson Danford. Their code names were Rebel (Mr. Burdette) and Tarter (Mr. Danford).
