shawn cecil smith

Shawn Cecil Smith, Manitoba Cree. 
Shawn was raised in Cross Lake and studied at DR Hamilton School, graduating from Thompson RD Parker Collegiate. After graduating, he enrolled in the Katimavik program and spent a year volunteering in communities across Canada. Shawncrown that his vocation was to serve his country more and apply to the Canadian Armed Forces. Shawn was sworn in as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces in 1999 and received basic training in Saint John, Quebec. Shawn was posted to Gagetown, New Brunswick, to complete his one-year training as a combat engineer (sapper). Shawn was then posted to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment at the Edmonton Garrison. He was then deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, as Canada's first combat operation since the Korean War. At the end of his combat tour, he went to the military police and practiced close security VIP neighborhoods in Borden, Ontario. At the end of his four years in the Canadian Army, he applied to the RCMP and was sworn in as a member in 2006 and served in the Thompson, Poplar River and Selkirk Detachments. In 2011, Shawn applied to the Winnipeg Police Service and was accepted where he is now a member. He lives in Winnipeg with his family. Shawn continues to participate annually in the annual review and Cadet Parade Ceremony and is a strong supporter of the Cross Lake Army Cadets.
