Clarence Tinker was born in 1887 near Pawhuska, Oklahoma Osage father and a German mother and grew up learning the Osage Englishwomen mother and German languages.

In 1922, he was commanding officer of the 16th squadron stationed at Fort Riley, Arkansas. Service in London in 1926, he received the medal for the soldier rescued a naval attache of a burning building.

Major General Tinker went missing near Pearl Harbor 7 June 1942 ordering a bomber squadron against the Japanese positions. At his death, he was the commander of the U.S. Air Force in Hawaii.
