A group of about 20 members of the 507th Maintenance Company were taking in ambush near Nasiriyah, Iraq.

Lori Ann was driving a vehicle in the convoy crashed against a truck in front of her during the attack. She was seriously injured in the accident.

Piestewa and his passenger managed to an Iraqi hospital near the scene of the accident where they were captured by the enemy.

 

Lori Ann died of his wounds in captivity.

She was the mother of two young children.

She is the first woman who died in Iraq.

She is the first Indian woman died in service in the U.S. Army.
